São Paulo is the largest and fastest growing city in the western hemisphere.
With a population of 22 million people, an international economy, and a growing church, São Paulo's worldwide impact is just beginning. But there are alarming trends that jeopardize the strength and maturity of biblical churches. The Rise of Pentecostalism 80% of Protestants claim to be Pentecostal by denomination or identity. -Pew Research Center 2014 The Rise of Prosperity Gospel 56% of Protestants say God will grant wealth and good health to believers who have enough faith. - Pew Research Center 2014 As the Global South becomes the new paradigm for Christianity, training leaders in São Paulo is a most strategic need for current and future Christians around the world. |
Josh and Jodie Greve are a missionary team seeking to go where church leaders and Christian educators need the biblical and educational instruction that God gave us in order to provide training to church leaders unable to supply for their own.

What
The NeedSince the beginning of the modern missions movement the harvest around the world has included millions of new disciples and thousands of church plants among the nations. However, there is a recognized disparity. Of the pastors serving in America 90% have a college degree, while 90% of pastors serving in other parts of the world have less than or equal to a high school diploma. Without trained leaders in doctrine and ministry the growing church can fall prey to errant teachings. God has called us to theological education among the nations to meet this need.

Why
Freely GiveTucked away in Jesus’ instructions to his disciples on their first itinerant teaching stint is a profound statement: “Freely you received, freely give” (Mt. 10:8). We have received a great education, but most of all God has given us new life and his Spirit of transforming power. All that we have is not ours to hold onto but was given to us specifically so that we could give it to others and multiply God’s blessing for his glory.

Teaching |
The prophet was a preacher of the word; the teacher explained what the prophet proclaimed, reduced it to statements of doctrine, and applied it to the situation in which the church lived and witnessed. Therefore, the teacher offers systematic instruction (2 Tim. 2:2) to the local churches. In Ephesians 4:11 Paul understands that a teacher must love those whom he is instructing in order to communicate effectively. We love to teach and we love our students.
|
Exhortation |
(Rom 12:8) - The possessor of the gift of exhortation gives a more personal approach to prophecy or teaching. Exhortations are to be given in the persuasive power of love, understanding, and sympathy. The aim would be to win Christians to a higher way of life and to a deeper self-dedication to Christ. The Spirit, therefore, who bestowed the gift of exhortation would with the gift communicate spiritual persuasiveness and winsomeness. We seek personal relationships to communicate a Christ-like lifestyle.

Administration |
(1 Cor. 12:28) Certain members receive and exercise the gift of ruling or governing the local assembly of believers. This gift takes the form of sound advice and wise judgment in directing church affairs. In addition to administration, practical matters in the conduct of public worship require wisdom and foresight in order to legislate and make decisions for others. We offer constructive critiques and organized leadership plans for groups of believers.

TruthGod speaks and judges truly and he cannot lie (Ps 57:3; Heb 6:18). Jesus himself is the truth and he calls his believers to live according to truth (Jn 14:6; Gal 3:1). We find the foundation for all truth in the Scriptures, the very words of God (2 Tim. 3:16-17). Yet biblical truth does not contrast with scientific or historical truth as all truth is God’s truth (Acts 17:28). Ultimately the truth of God calls for men to respond to it (Rom. 9:1). We value God’s truth as the foundation for everything we do. 1

Echoing the value of diversity, it is important to build a community where each individual selflessly contributes their role in the team effort. We value community and the characteristics that build community like honesty, humility, confession, conflict resolution, and intimacy.
ProductivityMapping and executing plans is a divine work in seeking God’s rest (Gen 2:2). There is work to be accomplished because evil plans are afoot to thwart God’s activity. While God’s creation established rest, the entrance of Adam’s sin into creation allowed chaos and the restless state of sin to reign. Yet it is God who is bringing his people to his rest again through Jesus Christ with the promise of a future eternal rest (Heb 3:7-4:11). Rest in this sense is the freedom from the burdens of sin, sorrow, pain, and suffering in order to actively serve God in complete joy. Today we seek God’s rest by working diligently for righteousness with clearly defined expectations according to Scripture and the call of the church. A taste of God’s rest is given in Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit when sin is defeated and holiness is produced. We value productivity with clearly defined expectations and plans that pursue high levels of accomplishment with the hope of tasting small measures of a God given and enabled satisfaction in his holiness. 3

DiversityThe Triune God has revealed himself in three persons being unified in one being. Each person of the Triune God is unique in personal function and loving relational interaction with each other and towards creation. The created world bears the mark of its Creator and exists to glorify the unity and diversity of God. Every man and woman bears the image of God with an equal value and the same purpose to glorify God. Yet every individual is unique and there are many diverse cultures with different expressions of living according to the central purpose of mankind. We value the diversity of God’s creation and the unique image of God that each man and woman bears.
GraceThe divine activity of God whereby he confronts human rebellion with a never ending and abounding willingness to forgive and to bless. God is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Ex 34:6). This grace allows for God and man to be reconciled in their relationship and for man to be redeemed from his sin and impending judgment. Ultimately, God’s grace was manifested in the life, death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, who was a gracious and unmerited atoning sacrifice for the justification of mankind. This gift is freely given by God to anyone who receives it by faith (Rom. 5:1; Ti. 3:7). It is God’s grace that gives all opportunity for God and man to be in a blessed relationship with each other and for all God’s people who respond in humility to this grace the ability to respect, serve, and forgive others. We value free grace and all of its implications for relationships. 2
